Gravity exploration consists in the systematic study of variations of this field over an area of interest where it is required to know the density distributions below surface of lithological masses or specific mineralization with high density as well as low density targets such as coal. The study of voids is also well-suited for this method. Once data reduction is applied to measurements, inversion to a density distribution in 3D space is also possible
